The Boreal Forest Conservation Framework reflects the collective wisdom of the Boreal Leadership Council and is based on the best available principles of conservation biology and land use planning. The goal of the Framework is to preserve at least half of the Boreal Forest in a network of large interconnected protected areas and support sustainable communities, world-leading ecosystem-based resource management practices and state-of-the-art stewardship practices in the remaining landscape. The Framework has the support of a wide range of resource companies, conservation groups, First Nations, members of the Boreal Leadership Council, as well as various governments. In May 2007, more than 1,500 scientists from around the world endorsed the Framework’s vision for Boreal conservation. |
